This is a question for some of you!

I'm having problems with my download rate and upload rate was wondering if you could answer these questions, have soloutions or tips for me?

Firstly, my friend is needing a copy of a game we bought of which is dvd got cracked on the edge so drive can't read it. sadly he lives few hundred miles north of me. so can't go over and give him a copy! - so ive torrented a file made it an iso and sent him it. but im stuck on 40-50kps upload rate. when speed tests say atleast over 100kbps. ive set it to unlimited upload rate etc.
but nothing..

also ive got atleast 300+ kbps download rate and im not even reaching that most ive seen it is 100ish! like ive been capped! is there any way i can improve on this, better way of sending 7gig of files?
any way i can improve my download rate, software or techy!
sadly im not admin of my router! so i can't portforward etc Sad
would this be my major issue?

any info will be appreciated!

As this affects why i cant play or game online due to my ping jumpy cuts out every so often. not a happy bunny!
thanks in advance

a lot of it depends on your ISP Gavin, some sites are better at DL,ing than others, but mostly your ISP can efect your upload and downlolad speed. Sad

hmm oh right clive!

this whole thing annoys me! speedtests say that i have between 267-1300kbps upload rate and a download rate of 89-1200kbps

But my contract well not mine my parent's are stated for upto 8mb of which they said our area max you can recieve is 6mb at the moment. so should be 6k.
obviously i know about all sharing the connection and things.. just seems so weird that i talk to others and they share pictures through torrents that are a few gig and can download them at higher rates and upload at higher rates..
seems hopeless!

Contracts look similiar here. The statement is "UP TO" 8 mb.
So there ain't any gurantee for really getting 8 mb per second.

It depends to your distance from ADSL exchange/node.
If you're to far from the next exchange even changing
your ISP might not help.

Maybe you talk to your direct neighbours and ask if anyone
of them is getting beter speed rates.

Hope I got the whole topic right - feel free to correct me
if there's anything wrong... Wink

hi peeps...

regards upload and download speed....

just devide what your MB is by 10 and that should give a very good
estimate of what you should be downloading at.....

example....

i am on 7900k (8MB) download
and 489k uplaod.... 1/2 MB standard in uk on speeds over 4 meg dl....

so... 8000k / 10 gives me 800k roughly download bandwidth
and 490k / 10 gives me roughly 45 -50k upload speeds...

i do get these speeds....

1/2 is standard i uk for speeds over 4meg download bandwidth
which blows cause most of us need more upload speed sometimes..
if you want higher speeds... your gonna have to go with a cable company
and fibre optics.. these currently do 24 meg dl and 2.5 meg upload..

its still pants for uploading big files.. we still on copper lines here...

BT's copper lines to be exact... hopefully one day fibre optics will become
standard in uk and we can all have mega fast bandwidths...
but that wont happen for a very long time yet...

gavin id check your router or modem to see what bandwidth it is showing
upload and download bandwidth... divide it by 10... if your not gettting
what your supposed to be getting... like 8Meg you either live to far fromt he exchange and you line cant support that speed or your provider is ripping you off...

none the less.... not many of us uk residents can upload faster than 50kps
no matter how much you tweak your pc settings...

Smile

hope this helped!
